FTP on AWS Cloud using AWS S3

File Transfer is the most important task when you do any business within your multiple offices or with the client or vendors. There are many ways and means to do the File/data transfer across the each other. But all you need is the security and the convenience of the data transfer. The convenient way to do the File/Data transfer is to configure the in-premises FTP server and share the credentials with vendor or Client to upload or download the data. There are many drawbacks in this old methodology, but it is the simplest solution available. Many companies are using the Google Drive, Dropbox, and other online services to move the data, but the paying huge money for such services too. The options to avail the service from Dropbox enterprise or Google Drive enterprise is fixed space with the fixed price. The more you need, the more you need to pay for fixed size. This becomes cumbersome when it reaches the limit of the data storage. Instead of using such paid service, if we use

Why AWS is better than any Cloud Service provider?

Cloud service is not an alien terminology now, every small, mid-size or enterprise are using the Cloud service. Cloud Services comes in Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) or Software as a Service (SaaS). And AWS is way ahead of the competition to provide the IaaS and PaaS, compared with Azure which is in second place in Cloud Service Market and IBM and Google are struggling to find the third spot. The common question has been asked, why AWS is more popular amongst all?

There are multiple reasons to answer this 'WHY' phenomenon.

Internal projects on IaaS

Amazon was using the computing power to serve their online store. Amazon and Jeff Bezos were in trouble to launch the merchant.com to help the other brands like Target and Marks and Spencer to use the Amazon e-commerce engine as and service. It was years 2000 and Amazon were not prepared their portal www.amazon.com for any future plan for Marketplace or to use the e-commerce as a service. This results the developers were not able to produce the results expected by Jeff Bezos.

All developers were using their own infrastructure to build the products without any thought of the scaling. This lead to the idea of using the common Infrastructure accessible for everyone as a Service for all Internal developers.

Glimpse of the AWS

In 2003, one of the e-commerce exercise which they were expected to last for 30 minutes, ended a bit longer. As the Developer team was working hard on the computer power, they have realized their expertise in the Compute, Storage and Databases services too. This lead the idea of AWS as an Operating System over the internet. It was a still dream till Aug 2006.

Launch of the AWS was the Key

Software companies like Microsoft and Google were using the Infrastructure as a Service for their internal purposes only.  IaaS never lead to the business until Aug 2006. AWS launched in Augst 2006 with limited services like Elastic Cloud Compute (EC2) and Simple Storage Service (S3) only.

Jeff Bezos took a risk to launch the AWS and he gets paid for that risk. Today AWS business is over $10 billion, owning more than 40% cloud Market share.

"I believe we are the best place in the world to fail (we have plenty of practice!), and failure and invention are inseparable twins," Bezos said.

Reinventing

AWS didn't just stop there and provide the IaaS to the world. They have reinvented each service that cloud be needed in the market.  Since the launch of AWS in August 2006, they have introduced more than 70 small/big services under AWS web console.
Reengineering and reinventing gives the AWS an edge to be ahead of the all competitors.

Understand the Market need

Nobody had thought AWS would grow this fast and as big as it is now. Companies principle is to work for people to solve their problems at low-cost to the customers or even considering the companies loss. This help AWS to come with most features at the lowest rate they could offer. Amazon is customer-focused company while introducing any new feature under the AWS.

Ease of the Access

Compare to any Cloud Service Provider the Dashboard and usability of the AWS are much easy for developers. AWS kept UX/I (User Experience Interface) to the simplest, help to understand for technical as well as non-technical users. This benefits the customer to start using the AWS service without any pre-qualification of the Cloud services.

Global presence

The AWS Cloud infrastructure is built around Regions and Availability Zones (“AZs”). Whereas the regions are the physical geographical locations, but Availability Zones (AZ) are discrete data centers, each with redundant power, networking and connectivity, housed in separate facilities. In short, Each Region will have more than one Availablity Zone to quickly replace or avoid any complete downtimes even in any natural calamity or disaster. This help customer to operate their production applications and databases which are more highly available, fault-tolerant and scalable environment.

The AWS Cloud operates 42 Availability Zones within 16 geographic Regions around the world.

Cost

If compare with any service provider, AWS is the cheapest option of any size of the cloud or services. The 12 month free compute attract more and more customers to AWS. While launching the AWS in Augst 2006, they come up with the idea of PAY-AS-YOU-GO. This pay-as-you-go, allow the customer to adapts the change in business without an overcommitting budget to any hosting service provider. As the usage of the AWS services gets used globally, the AWS reduce the pricing. Recently, in Jul 2017, AWS has announced their 62nd Price reduction list.

AWS has the plan for customers who are ready to pay the bill up front for EC2 service. This helps the customer to save up to 60% on their compute value. Find more about the AWS pricing here.

This will keep the AWS on top of the Cloud Service Market till next decade.
